Crude Oil Storage Tank
Crude oil storage tanks are large-scale sealed containers specifically designed for storing crude oil. Featuring high capacity, corrosion resistance, explosion resistance, and controllable safety, they serve as critical facilities in petroleum extraction, refining, storage, and transportation.
- Main Structure: The predominant design is the cylindrical vertical tank (featuring uniform stress distribution and high volume utilization). The tank comprises the shell, roof, bottom, and auxiliary structures. Common roof types include fixed roofs and floating roofs, while the bottom may be flat or curved. The bottom incorporates drain ports and vent ports, with side panels reserved for oil inlet/outlet ports and level gauge interfaces.
- Core Materials: Primarily carbon steel (e.g., Q235B, Q345R) offers moderate cost with sufficient strength. Internal walls require anti-corrosion treatment (e.g., epoxy coating, electrostatic dissipative coating) to prevent corrosion from sulfides and moisture in crude oil. Large tanks or special conditions (e.g., high-sulfur crude) may use corrosion-resistant alloy steel, with stainless steel for some components.
- Foundation and Protection: Utilize reinforced concrete ring foundations or raft foundations to distribute the total load of the tank and crude oil. Apply rust-proof primer + anti-corrosion topcoat to the tank's outer walls. Install lightning protection and grounding systems for outdoor tanks. Equip floating roof tanks with sealing devices (e.g., mechanical seals, elastic seals) to minimize crude oil vaporization and leakage risks.
Key Performance Requirements
- Safety & Risk Resistance: Tanks must withstand crude oil static pressure, resist seismic and wind loads, and incorporate explosion-proof and fire-resistant facilities to prevent safety incidents from crude oil leaks.
- Low-Loss Sealing: Floating roof tanks utilize sealing structures to minimize crude oil vapor loss, meeting environmental and energy-saving requirements. Fixed roof tanks incorporate breathing valves and flame arresters to balance internal pressure and prevent fires.
- Corrosion Resistance & Adaptability: Anti-corrosion designs address crude oil characteristics like sulfur, water, and wax content to prevent tank corrosion and perforation, ensuring long-term safe storage.
- Application Scenarios: Widely used in oilfield production areas (crude collection, transportation, and storage), refineries (raw material and refined product storage), oil depots (transit and reserve storage), and port terminals (import/export crude loading, unloading, and storage). Suitable for both short-term transit storage and strategic petroleum reserve facilities, ensuring stable energy supply.
